Wilted Lettuce Leaf
Ingredients 4 cups torn leaf lettuce 1 small onion sliced 3 radishes sliced 6 bacon strips diced 2 tablespoons vinegar 1 teaspoon brown sugar 14 teaspoon ground mustard 14 to 12 teaspoon salt 18 teaspoon pepper.
Wilted lettuce leaf. You want the lettuce sufficiently coated so it will wilt but not drown in the dressing. Wilted lettuce garden salad is a summer classic. Fry bacon until crisp. Fruits and vegetables are mostly water with iceberg lettuce at 96 water.
2 tablespoons melted bacon drippings. 3 to 4 green onions chopped kosher salt to taste freshly ground black pepper to taste for the dressing. Directions wash the lettuce several times. Lettuce gets soft and limp because it loses water.
8 cups shredded lettuce. Wet and soggy soil causes the plants roots to drown and rot. Immediately pour dressing over and toss lightly. Adjust the quantities accordingly.
Pour over lettuce while boiling hot. Using a slotted spoon remove to paper towels to drain. 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or white vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar. Leaves may begin to yellow and wilt or the whole.
Clean and cut the onions into the lettuce. In a skillet put bacon drippings vinegar salt pepper and sugar. 1 bunch of fresh leaf lettuce or about 4 or 5 cups of chopped lettuce 4 or 5 slices bacon cooked crumbled and set aside save drippings 12 cup chopped green onions with tops. Drain saving drippings and crumble.
Top with onion egg and crumbled bacon. Chop some onion and set aside. In the fridge lettuce and other greens lose water to the air the cells that hold the water shrink and the outward appearance is wilted and limp. Lettuce suffering from drought stress wilts quickly and fails to put on new growth.
Place lettuce in a salad bowl. A head of leaf lettuce comes in different sizes and some bacon will render more grease than other bacon. Place lettuce in a large bowl. Put the leaves in a salad spinner to remove the excess water or allow the leaves to drain in a colander lined with paper towels.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Heat dressing ingredients to boiling. I remove all hard parts like the spine of the leaves.
